Races are won and lost in the pits. The riders who never seem to have problems aren't lucky — they prep the night before so race morning is calm. Here's the run-through to do before every event.

Engine & Fluids

  • Fresh oil and a clean/new oil filter.
  • Coolant topped off; no weeping from hoses or the water pump.
  • Clean, freshly oiled air filter — and a spare ready in the pits.
  • Full tank of fresh fuel (correct pre-mix ratio for two-strokes).

Drivetrain

  • Chain cleaned, lubed and set to correct slack.
  • Sprocket teeth inspected for wear.
  • Clutch and front brake feel firm with proper free play.

Chassis & Controls

  • Bolt check: spokes, sprocket bolts, engine mounts, bar clamps, foot pegs, brake/shift levers, axle nuts — to torque spec.
  • Tire condition and pressures set for the surface.
  • Levers and grips tight; throttle snaps back freely.
  • Brakes working front and rear, pads with life left.

Suspension

  • Sag confirmed for your gear.
  • Clickers set to your baseline for the track type.
  • No oil weeping from fork seals or shock.

Pack the Pit

Tools, spare air filter, chain lube, fuel, zip ties, spare levers, tire gauge, and your sag/clicker notes. A few minutes packing a box now saves a frantic search later.

Race Morning

Warm the bike, do a quick walk-around for leaks and loose bolts, and re-check tire pressures. Then go ride — the prep is already done.
